Human-Nature: Reframing Group Therapy Through an Anti-Racist Lens

This article examines the influence of Eurocentric values on group theories and the erasure of identity factors in group therapy interventions. It proposes embracing an interconnected view of the self and others, termed "interbeing," as opposed to the prevailing individualistic approach. The importance of addressing race, intersectional identities, and cultural illumination in group processes is emphasized, encouraging group leaders to promote awareness and emotional equanimity. The article advocates for a transformative shift in group therapy, rejecting binary emotional judgments and fostering curiosity and compassion for a more inclusive and humanizing therapeutic approach.
